Oud can smell woody, smoky, resinous, leathery, warm or slightly sweet. Some oud perfumes feel dark and powerful; others are softened with amber, vanilla, musk, fruit or florals. What does oud smell like?

Where does oud come from?

In modern perfumery, an “oud” fragrance may use natural oud oil, an oud accord created from a blend of fragrance materials, or a combination. An accord is designed to produce an oud-like impression without claiming to be natural agarwood oil. The word “oud” in a fragrance name does not, by itself, prove that natural agarwood is present.
Why do oud perfumes smell so different?
Several factors change the way an oud fragrance smells:
- The oud material or accord: it may lean smooth, smoky, earthy, leathery or resinous.
